Ross Ryan, better known as StéLouse, has been no stranger to the Daily Beat archives. Our last coverage on the Denver producer was about a tune he dropped with ahh-ooh, a collaboration that marked the creation of Hebinomichi – StéLouse and ahh-ooh’s co-managed collective/label. Since then, StéLouse has been firing out his releases, and shows no intention of losing momentum. Last week, StéLouse dropped his latest collaboration – a song he worked on with NY-based producer AIRWAV. AIRWAV has also been super consistent with his releases over the past year, with his extremely original reimagining of Earth, Wind & Fire’s September being his quantifiably hottest drop to date.
The collab is titled Ayahuasca, with StéLouse appropriately describing it as a “trippy little tune”. Genre wise, it lies somewhere on the post-trap spectrum, with some heavy glitch and trip hop elements at work. The song does have a distinct intro and outro, but is hard to structurally define elsewise. The full drum track starts about 30 seconds in, and from there the music just continues to unravel as it progresses and builds upon the presented motifs. With only two minutes and twenty-four seconds of playtime, the song feels particularly brief; definitely shorter than any ayahuasca trip has ever been.
