All You Need To Know About Flying Lotus' Fifth Studio Album, You're Dead!

October 6, 2014 -

Hip-hop fans (and all lovers of good music, let's be real) are all simultaneously squealing with delight because Flying Lotus' fifth album, You're Dead!, dropped today in the UK and will be released tomorrow to American audiences.

Anticipation has been building around this record for a while now, but the hype was especially heightened after last month's release of the audio for the track entitled "Never Catch Me" featuring hip-hop's current Prime Minister, Kendrick Lamar. Then, four days ago, the world was blessed with a visual representation of the cacophonous jazz adaptation, featuring a dead pair of kids with immense dancing abilities.

FlyLo has been pushing the envelope in experimental hip-hop sound throughout his career, and his newest release continues to venture further into new sonic territory. Nonetheless, he impressively maintains his signature style. Although it's hard to describe an average FlyLo record because there really isn't one single sound that defines him. However, he continues to blend dynamic instrumentation with different musical genres and styles to create what can only be described as -- I apologize for the lack of a better phrase --  the classic Flying Lotus sound.

Along with Kendrick, the album features a host of other musical elite, including Snoop Dogg, the obligatory collaboration with Thundercat, and Herbie Hancock. The album can be purchased on iTunes, here, on October 7th. And you can catch FlyLo on tour in your city! Peep the dates and times here. Support great music!
