UPDATED 4/27: If you think you're the OG of paint parties, Hinduism and it's celebration of Holi has you beat...by 1,300 years. This epic tradition follows the belief of embracing life and love in all of it's colorful glory through covering yourself in paint and being joyous. Festival of Colors: Holi NYC returns for it's 4th year on May 9th, as NYC's premiere Holi celebration for those who can't travel the other side of the world.
The festival aims to bring additional experiences than it's previous years with it's expansive list of musical acts, art installations, food vendors and PAINT, LOTS OF PAINT. It's a completely different type of paint party than what you used to. The tradition calls for the use of Gulal, a colorful powdery dust (organic and completely safe/washable) substance, which brings an entirely new perspective to the somewhat overplayed idea. In years past, events like Day Glow and what not have over saturated the idea of paint parties without a real sense of purpose, but Festival of Colors: Holi NYC brings a tangible culture and aesthetic to the table.
What's a party without music? Holi NYC presents a various collection of artists that's appealing to every music buff including; Branchez, Lucky Chops Brass Band, M.A.K.U Soundsystem, remix connoisseurs The Golden Pony, and more TBA.
This is going to be one wild day you won't want to miss!
