Verboten Offers Free Deep House Yoga Classes [March 9 & 10]

During each hour-long class (held twice per evening every Monday and Tuesday), Willkommen transforms the large Control Room into an otherworldly work-out wonderland. Time Out New York says about the class, "Verboten’s kick-ass sound system sure as hell beats the stereo you’re used to at the Y." It's a multi-sensory experience that stands out amongst the overflow of spin classes and Crossfit gyms. At Willkommen, it feels as though Saturday night never ended: class members not only enjoy DJs Tasha Blank and George Faya's deep house beats, but they're also enveloped in Verboten's video-projected walls, which screen psychedelic projections as locally and nationally recognized yoga practitioners take the lead. Perpetually moving lights emit different wavelengths to help energize and soothe, while the skylight and disco ball add more awe to the ambience. Faya, also the manager of Verboten, tells Huffington Post, "People find a sense of spirituality through music, so this union is not so far-fetched."

Taking a cue from the all-welcoming mentality of the electronic dance music community, most levels – from novice to veteran – are accommodated. Practices center on vinyasa flow with a blend of others. Don't have a yoga mat? No problem – Verboten provides Lululemon mats, complimentary with each session. Also complimentary are the snacks from Divine Chocolates. Water, coconut water, smoothies, and full bar are also available.
