What up guys and gals? This is ya boy Tom, writing from Berkeley, CA. Today I’d like to share a remix to a track I found just recently. Snoop Lion’s latest album, Reincarnated, delivers chill, relaxing reggae vibes while maintaining that classic OG Snoop Dogg swag. Considering the album is a Major Lazer production, I’m hardly surprised. But it’s a remix of one of Reincarnated’s tracks that really has me excited: Jaytee’s remix of “Lighters Up (feat. Mavado & Popcaan).”
It takes about a minute to kick in, but once it gets going, I think it trumps every song on the album – including the original Lighters Up. Between its heavy brass infused bass lines and some hyphy akin to 'Bama’s pregame locker room, I’ll give mad props to anyone whose head isn’t rocking by the time the beat drops (around 1:11). From a brief glance at Jaytee’s Facebook and a few failed Google searches for more information, it’s clear that he’s still up and coming. Nevertheless, I think it’s very telling that despite Snoop Lion’s musical prowess, Jaytee’s remix of Lighters Up is the only track that made it onto my iPod.
You should also check out the video for the original Lighters Up – it’s one of the best I’ve seen in a while.
