Dear Dilla

For those who haven't heard, in honor of the late producer James Yancey AKA J Dilla, Phife Dawg of the hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest recently dropped a tribute song, "Dear Dilla", which you can check out below. "Dear Dilla", produced by DJ Rasta Root comes accompanied with its own music video, shot in Jay Dee's hometown of Detroit and even features a cameo from his mother, Maureen Yancey AKA Ma Dukes. All in all, "Dear Dilla" comes across as incredibly powerful and moving homage toward the detroit producer's legacy in today's hip hop scene, highlighting his musical achievements as well as Phife and Dilla's shared history of health struggles (Dilla passed away due to a rare blood disease, while Phife makes no secret of being 'the funky diabetic'.)

and A Tribe Called Quest have recently launched their own Dear Dilla website, showcasing the music video, as well as displaying pictures and selling Dear Dilla merchandise for fans to purchase. All proceeds go to Dilla's daughters, Ja’Mya Yancey and Ty~Monae’ Paige Whitlow.
