Flashback: Chicane - Halcyon

Following on from Finn Lurcott's insightful post about the world of trance, I thought I'd share with you perhaps my favourite trance song of all time. British trance legend Chicane, who's debut album in 1997 was highly regarded as ground - breaking in the trance industry, is still releasing incredible material with the release of 'Thousand Mile Stare' early last year. Halcyon is a track that seems to send goosebumps around my body every time I hear it, and the same can be said for many of his tracks. Originally released in 2000, Chicane reworked Halycon in 2008 for his greatest hits album, inserting a more euphoric and uplifting punch to the track. Halcyon begins with an extremely textured, progressive and almost heavy buildup before breaking into pure euphoria. This section of the song really defines Chicane and the way he is so easily able to create irresistible and pulsating melodies places him in my opinion one of the trance greats. To get the best out of this song you need to play this loud, and I can assure you the breakdown at 4.55 will get you hooked. If you like this track check out his other numerous anthems here. Enjoy
