The Chainsmokers - Kanye (feat. Siren)

August 5, 2014 -

FINALLY! Now we can all move on from #Selfie and onto more important topics...Kanye. The Chainsmokers' recent success may seem like a flash in the pan, but they've actually been at it for for two years releasing over 35 tracks. Those who have been following Drew and Alex's rise to fame know that #Selfie was really an ingenious marketing ploy that took advantage of the stupidity and virality factors encompassing the youth today. "Kanye" however brings to the masses the production quality that really makes The Chainsmokers a unique duo in the much diluted music scene.

They rely on the beautiful indie-pop vocals of Siren which play off of their dynamic beats that layer in piano riffs and thumping bass lines. The one thing they didn't forget to include is their understated sense of humor. #Selfie was a much more in your face type of comedy (i.e. Dane Cook) while "Kanye" is hilarious in itself and doesn't try too hard to be that way (i.e. Mitch Hedberg) and reminds me of their inspirational Instagram posts. It also appeals to the masses because Kanye fans will think it's a song applauding the rapper/father/christ-like figure they want to #BeLike, and those who despise the man will thing it's a tongue-in-cheek jab at the ego-centric douche. Either way, The Chainsmokers have struck gold again and "Kanye" should be another chart topper for the boys.

This isn't about him, or anything he has done, LETS BE VERY CLEAR ABOUT THAT! It's about taking what Kanye idealistically represents and turning his name into an adjective. This song is about doing you, living life how you want to live it and not giving a fuck what anyone else thinks. Its about owning your shit and being happy with your life, no matter the circumstances, rich or poor, skinny or fat, young or old its about exuding confidence... and that's what appeals to us so much about this song. So when you belt out 'I Wanna Be Like Kanye' its not about him, but about being the person you want to be and not letting anyone take that from you.

You can be anything you want to #BELIKE
