With climate change policy hanging in limbo, the green revolution within festie culture couldn’t have come at a better time. Lightning in a Bottle holds sustainability at the core of their ethos, and encourage all participants to embrace the same values while in attendance. Here are a couple tips to stay green while still having fun:

PACK LIGHT

Go for the minimalist approach! There are more than enough amenities to keep you happy and healthy at LiB, so leave the excess at home and take advantage of the infrastructure provided by our team. Plus, packing light will make your travel easier to and from the event, especially if you’re flying in (save on those pesky baggage fees). It’s your wits and witticisms that you need to rely on, not endless amounts of luggage!

END SINGLE USE

Be conscious of your packing decisions when bringing single use items to LiB. Don’t be the squad that buys the last minute discount easy-up with plans to ditch it on Sunday. If anyone needed reminding, plastic water bottles and other single use items can create mountains of waste over the course of the festival weekend. Besides, reusable double-walled water bottles will keep your drinks cold alllll day long! Fill em’ up!

Moop-squad

NO MOOP FOR YOU!

MOOP is a nifty acronym that stands for Matter Out of Place (h/t Burning Man) and describes anything that is not originally from the place that it resides. Everything that you bring with you to LiB is functionally MOOP until you pack it up for the ride home. Microtrash like glow sticks, cigarette butts, and glitter can become a huge problem when they are used by thousands of people over the course of the weekend. Be sure to be cautious of the trash that comes from your campsite, and consider that whatever you leave, someone else will have to pick up!

FRUITS AND VEGGIES!

How you pack your food can have a large impact on your campsite trash pile. Forget about packaged foods and opp for bananas, avocados, hard boiled eggs, and other foods that only generate compost. Not only will this keep your energy high, but it will leave you with much less refuse to deal with at the end of the event.

CARPOOL LANE IS FASTER

Make a friend and ride together to LiB! Share the costs of the trip, as well as stories, snacks, and music knowledge. Roadtrips create lifelong friends while inherently lengthening the fun of your festival weekend. Don’t have wheels? Hop on the Lightning Bus and make fifty new friends along the way!
