Bringing it Back — Moon Boots and the Backyard Boogie Mix

July 19, 2013 -

Brett Blackman

"Woooah Baby it is a hot, hot day!" exclaimed my neighbor as I stepped out the front door of my East Baltimore home this morning. She sat on her porch fanning herself with the day's copy of The Sun. "Lawdy Lawd!"

I sat down on stoop and as I did the last caressing wisps of air-conditioning left my body, replaced instead by the large, wet, sweaty kiss of Summer. From inside my neighbor's house I could hear the playful notes of some old school Boogie playing on a small radio. Cars drove by, kids who were  out of school ran off to camp, and the swish, swish of my neighbor's newspaper-fan played a shuffle rhythm over the bouncing beat. I'm not sure what it is, but Boogie (next to Funk) is probably one of my favorite genres to listen to in the Summer. Our friend and the king of the funky electro revival, Moon Boots, put together a mad groovy mix of for y'all this summer. I recommend pouring yourself a tall glass of ice tea, perching yourself on your stoop, porch, or in your favorite spot of shade, turning this mix up loud and letting the summer roll you by.

You can win2 tickets to see Moon Boots tonight in LA! Check out our ticket giveaway!

Stay Cool,

Lyle Hawthorne
