Sean Turk turned the “cosmic lovin’” way up in his latest remix of St. Louis native and Progressive Soul artist Brandyn Burnette’s Closer. The release is another example of the New York producer and multi-instrumentalist’s unrivaled ability to draw out emotional responses through his alterations.
Turk ramps up the tempo on Burnette’s boudoir-bass track, and reveals the passion behind its deep, sensual lyrics. Playing with both high and low-pass filters, echoes, and moments of nearly empty sound space, Turk heightens the drama very effectively leading up to the drop. The use of a passionate groan appropriately marks the transition, as synth timbres sounding more like wailing sirens explode over crushing bass hits.
An artist’s ability to remix is far more impressive when their personal style can strengthen the message and emotion established in the original track. Sean Turk clearly has incredible artistic ability. The way in which he can find and build upon what other artists have already attempted is uncanny, however. He is truly a master of the remaster.
