Acid techno master Alex Ridha, a.k.a. Boys Noize, has teamed up with acclaimed Canadian musician Chilly Gonzales to bring you an entire album under the name Octave Minds. Although Alex has a home with EDM, he is known for collaborating and producing music outside of this realm. For example, he's featured artists such as british rocker Jarvis Cocker from the band Pulp as well as hip hop icon Snoop Dogg in his most recent album.
Now the Noize steps away from glitchy dance music and into something more light and melodically stimulating. His partner in this is project is someone who's name you might have heard recently from a collaboration spot on Daft Punk's latest album Random Access Memories with the tracks Give Life Back To Music and Within. Chilly Gonzales was an interesting choice for collaboration and as you can hear from their first single "In Silence", it is something out of the ordinary for Alex. Arguably a complete 180 considering his last major collaboration was with Skrillex as Dog Blood.
The track has hints of analog drum hits that I can imagine was used with Alex's collection of vintage gear, as well as glistening piano melodies from Chilly. The dreary vocal sample used gives the track a downtempo flavor that I could imagine hearing from the XXYYXX or Bonobo. Overall I think it is a great song and knowing these guys I'm sure the album will have good variety and maybe even some more collaborators.
The full album will be available in September but for now you can stream "In Silence" and download it for FREE.
