Beats and Pieces Vol. I

May 22, 2015 -

Joe Nguyen

Hello reader, welcome to Beats and Pieces!

This is the first edition of a weekly post, in which we share a handful of tracks that are currently relevant and you should hear just in case one of your friends randomly asks you to send him/her 5 new songs. Each week a new member of our staff will be curating their top 5 tracks at the time of posting and will vary in genre with no particular theme. Think of it as us just posting tunes that we consider superb.

1. Boys Noize & Pilo - Cerebral

I actually heard this track in the later half of the line-up trailer for Hard Summer this year and have been anxiously awaiting for a stream of the full track. The tune itself turns out to be a part of Boys Noize's "Strictly Raw Vol.1" album that is coming out on June 19th. The album is made up of mostly collaborations from people who have come in and out of Boys Noize's studio in Berlin. The unique thing about the album is the production as well as the collaborations were done with taking a drum machine and two synths at the most then working on something from there. Look out for Boys Noize and friends as well as some VERY SPECIAL guest this Saturday (5/23/15) at Webster Hall!

2. Rihanna – Bitch Better Have My Money (Claude VonStroke Remix)

Claude Vonstroke hit a home-run with what I consider to be the best remix of Rhianna's "BBHMM". Claude gives the radio hit a full DirtyBird makeover but keeps Rihanna's head turning vocals in the breakdown. With the Dirty Bird BBQ tour starting soon, expect to have this be a stable in the Dirtybird Kings set.

3. Jack Ü - Where Are Ü Now (LH4L Remix)

LH4L or otherwise known as L'homme Aux 4 Lettres is a producer in Paris, France that has been making noise in the juke scene. He's had support from 4B, Valentino Khan, and Alvin Risk with his track "Horsequake" and is slowly rising with a sound meant for those who have their dancing shoes already on. His remix of "Where Are Ü Now" takes his juke sound but adds a bit of a Jersey Club vibe to it. It's probably the best remix of the track that I've heard thus far and if you need more reason to keep an eye on LH4L, a guy named Skrillex made a unreleased remix of his track Neoprene.

4. Drippy Dolphin - ♡-Stroonger-♡

FoFoFadi is such a strange and interesting collective of artist. Most of the identities of those involved have yet to be revealed to the public. The collective is made up of Trippy Turtle, Girly Gorilla, Booty Beaver, Cashmere Cat, and Drippy Dolphin. If you're confused as to why they all have animals in their names, well I wouldn't be able to tell you. The thing about the FoFoFadi is their use of animal noises, gun shots, acapellas from our favorite childhood pop songs, and pretty much everything under the "Random" category. It all works out through the collective using Jersey Club as their main layout for their tracks. It's all music meant for people who love hearing lyrics they heard many years ago with a modern dance touch to it. Stroonger is no exception to the rule as you hear the mashed up lyrics from Gwen Stefani and Britney Spears, dolphin noises, as well as the Jersey Club bassline.

5. Axwell /\ Ingrosso "On My Way" (Valentino Khan Remix)

Valentino Khan has been on a roll lately with a Flosstradamus collab, a remix for Zed Deads hit "Hadouken", and his original track "Deep Down Low" being a huge hit as well. It seems like nothing is stopping the man with the mustache anytime soon and this remix proves it. Khan takes the progressive melody and vocals from the original version of "On My Way" but flips it around in what people would say is "Going from 0-100 real quick" with a drop that'll make trap fans lose their collective minds.
