We have heard the musical stylings of Los Angeles based producer BARE for over half a decade now, and he has become a mainstay of the bass music scene throughout his years of production and performance. We have witnessed his sound expand and evolve with the progression of electronic music, but this week Bare is returning to his dub roots with his first original track of the year – Pitch Black.
What could possibly be called thematic dubstep, Pitch Black paints a picture of subterranean space exploration gone awry. The intro creates a melodic backdrop of darkness and tension, telling an unnerving story through panicked radio communications. After a belligerent build of bass growls and worried exclamations, the song drops listeners right into the thick of the action.
We have seen everything from electro house to festival trap from the LA bass boss, but Pitch Black shows BARE still relishes in the heavy dub sounds of his early days. Our sources tell us that this is the first of much to come for BARE’s return to bass. In the words of the big man himself – “BARE is back and out of hibernation.”
