The decision to remix a Baauer track, especially one featuring the President of G.O.O.D. Music, Pusha T, and one of rap’s current elite in Future, is certainly a bit of a bold one, but can ultimately explode when done well. Oakland producer KRNE has done just that with his remix of Kung Fu; breathing more life into the track with vivid Future-Bass percussion patterns and electro synth elements. Pusha T’s verses sound more epic and awe-inspiring thanks to his additions. Future’s hook, with perfectly separable halves, feels so natural in the far stronger bass elements. The first half of his hook builds up forcefully to the immersive, delayed trap drop, which pairs supremely with the second. The second drop is notably climactic—a feature the original song sorely lacked. KRNE stutters his percussion superbly in this section, further engulfing Future in his own good-vibes-toned revisions. Even the song’s conclusion remains beachy, fading out with the song’s central melody on repeat as the bass hits fall away leaving the mind to digest the exceptional auditory production it has just enjoyed. Stating on his Facebook page that the song was his way of celebrating his coming birthday with his fans, we assume KRNE will be having a blast to this one in 2016.
