Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks - "Little Fang"

February 13, 2014 -

Dominick Knowles

Animal Collective's Avey Tare (Dave Portner) has a new project: Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks. "Little Fang" is his first departure from AnCo since his 2010 solo release Down There. The new track is light and bouncy, with a pleasantly repetitive guitar hook and a pulsing 4/4 rhythm throughout. Portner's emblematic singing-lullabies-while-premeditating-murder  vocals are tamed, but not entirely stunted. And while "Little Fang" doesn't even try to accomplish what Animal Collective's best work seems to do effortlessly, it offers a welcome repose after their disastrous last LP, Centipede Hz.

The full record, Enter the Slasher House, drops April 8th in the U.S. via Domino records.
