Building Connection Through Creativity: Aurora and the Evolution of AUROMS

In VRChat, where communities form around shared interests and recurring events, AUROMS has evolved into a creative network that brings together music, art, performance, and immersive experiences through recurring events and community collaborations. At the center of that activity is Aurora, whose background in live music and event organization informs how these virtual experiences are structured. Her path into VRChat reflects a combination of personal history, family influence, and gradual involvement in existing communities.

Aurora’s early life included a strong emphasis on education and adaptability, shaped in part by growing up in the Caribbean where multilingual communication was standard. She learned multiple languages—Dutch, English, Spanish, and Papiamentu—as part of a system designed to support a tourism-driven economy. This exposure contributed to a practical, communication-focused mindset that later translated into community interaction.

She completed a vocational program in IT Administration, building a strong foundation in information technology and systems management. After entering the workforce, she gained extensive experience in operations, corporate administration, finance, and client services. Throughout her career, she further developed skills in software development and process automation, including designing and coding an internal business application to support organizational workflows.

Alongside her professional career, she pursued artistic studies and creative exploration, developing interests in painting, music, digital art, graphic design, and other forms of artistic expression. This combination of technical expertise, creativity, and practical business experience shaped a multidisciplinary approach to both her professional and personal endeavors. During this period, she also balanced family responsibilities, including raising a child.

Although her professional background was not centered on VR development, her experience in information technology, software development, systems administration, and business process design contributed to a strong understanding of digital ecosystems. Over time, these skills supported her ability to organize virtual communities, coordinate events, manage creative collaborations, and develop structured frameworks for projects such as AUROMS. Over time, these skills also supported her ability to engage with and organize within online communities.

Aurora’s introduction to VRChat came later, in 2025, when her daughter introduced her to the platform. Her initial interest was tied to a broader curiosity about “future realities,” combined with a practical appreciation for the platform’s convenience. The ability to socialize from home while still interacting with others in real time was a defining factor in her engagement.

Her daughter’s involvement provided an introduction to VRChat culture through dance and performance-focused communities. At the same time, friends introduced her to the platform’s rave and club scene, exposing her to events hosted by communities from Europe and other regions operating across different time zones. Her ability to communicate in multiple languages allowed her to engage with a wide range of international communities, giving her a deeper understanding of diverse cultures, event styles, and approaches to community building. Together, these experiences exposed her to a variety of virtual environments, from structured performances and dance events to nightclub-style gatherings and informal social spaces, helping her develop an appreciation for the platform’s global, multicultural, and interconnected nature.

Before organizing her own events, Aurora spent time exploring VRChat and researching it through online communities such as Reddit. This phase allowed her to build familiarity with both the technical and social aspects of the platform.

AUROMS began as a music-focused initiative but has evolved into a community-driven creative network within VR. Through curated events and collaborations, it seeks to connect DJs, artists, performers, world creators, and audiences while encouraging creativity, positive expression, and meaningful social interactions. According to Aurora, the underlying goal is not simply to host events, but to create opportunities for connection. Through shared experiences, creative collaboration, and artistic expression, AUROMS aims to help people feel seen, valued, and part of something larger than themselves. As the project evolved, AUROMS expanded beyond music-centered gatherings into a broader creative ecosystem. In addition to DJs and live performances, the community increasingly embraced visual artists, world creators, performers, dancers, and collaborative projects designed to create immersive experiences. This evolution reflects Aurora’s belief that virtual reality can serve as a medium for artistic expression that engages multiple senses and brings people together through shared moments of presence.

Aurora’s involvement includes featuring DJs and other creators on a regular basis, emphasizing both consistency and variety within a stable framework. Beyond scheduling events, her focus is on supporting positive creative expression in its many forms, whether through DJ performances, music mixing, visual arts, immersive world creation, live performances, or other artistic endeavors. She seeks to provide opportunities for creators, artists, and performers to showcase their work, gain exposure, and connect with new audiences. At the same time, she aims to create meaningful and enjoyable experiences for participants, fostering an environment that encourages creativity, connection, and community engagement. This emphasis on creator support reflects Aurora's belief that virtual spaces can serve as platforms for personal growth, artistic discovery, and community building. Rather than focusing solely on entertainment, she views events as opportunities to encourage creativity, foster meaningful relationships, and help individuals share their talents with others.

Her path into organizing these events was gradual, beginning with participation in other VRChat event groups. By working with established communities first, she developed an understanding of logistics, coordination, and audience expectations before taking on a more active role. The structure of AUROMS appears to prioritize accessibility and repeat participation, aligning with VRChat’s broader ecosystem where regular events help sustain community interest over time.

Collaboration remains a central aspect of AUROMS. Rather than operating in isolation, the project frequently partners with other communities, event organizers, creators, and performers. Aurora sees these collaborations as opportunities to connect audiences, share creative resources, and strengthen the broader VR ecosystem.

Aurora also credits much of AUROMS' growth to the friendships, encouragement, and support she received from members of the broader VRChat community. There were periods that presented personal and organizational challenges, including difficult experiences within some communities. During those times, numerous individuals, creators, DJs, community leaders, and partner groups offered guidance, opportunities, and encouragement. She expresses gratitude to the many friends and communities who welcomed her, collaborated with her, and helped AUROMS continue to grow. Their support reinforced her belief that virtual communities can be built on mutual respect, creativity, and cooperation. Aurora views AUROMS not as a solo achievement, but as the result of many people contributing their time, talent, trust, and friendship along the way. She often emphasizes that AUROMS grew through the trust, support, and contributions of many people, and that its continued development is the result of a collective effort rather than the work of any single individual.

Aurora’s work with Auroms illustrates how real-world experience in music and event organization can translate into virtual spaces. Drawing from a background shaped by family, local music scenes, and gradual immersion in VRChat, she has contributed to building a recurring event structure that emphasizes participation and consistency. As VR-based communities continue to evolve, efforts like Auroms reflect a practical approach to sustaining social music experiences in a digital environment.
