Top [More Than] 10 Things of 2013

December 29, 2013 -

Daily Beat Staff

The Daily Beat family has been churning out top 10 lists as of late, so I'm gonna try something different. This top 10 list is different to most, mainly because it has 18 items on it. It's also far more random in nature than most categorically organized lists. What does that mean? I don't know, but hopefully I'll figure it out by the end of this list.

Ok, here goes.

1. Best Jersey Club Remix of a 90s R&B song ---- Janet Jackson - I Get Lonely (DJ Hoodboi Remix)

2. Most Futuristic EP ---- Jacuzzi - Mizu EP

3. Best New Artist ---- Trippy Turtle

4. Kanye West Award for Best Kanye West Remix ---- Kanye West - New Slaves (DJ Snake Remix)

5. Best Collaboration (Techno) ---- Dog Blood (Boys Noize x Skrillex)

6. Best Collaboration (Trap) ---- Baauer & RL Grime - Infinite Daps

7. Best Disclosure Remix ---- J.A.C.K. (Disclosure - When A Fire Starts To Burn (J.A.C.K. Remix))

8. Most Mysterious Artist ---- DJ Yolo Bear

9. Best Song To Turn Down For ---- EVV - Vibr8 (Outkast Cover)

10. Best Song Whose Remix Made It Better ---- Disclosure - Latch (DJ Premier Remix)

11. Best DJ Identity Duality - Clockwork / RL Grime

12. Best Contribution To New Music (Country) ---- Australia

13. Best Contribution To New Music (Label) ---- LuckyMe Records

14. Best Remix of a Song that Everyone Remixed ---- Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans (Manila Killa Remix)

15. Best Resurgence in Popularity (Song) ---- Bell Biv Davoe - Poison

16. Best Artist Who Popped Out of Nowhere And Is Actually Awesome ---- Electric Mantis

17. Best Music Video ---- Gesaffelstein - Pursuit

18. Most Played Song At House Parties ---- DJ Snake feat. Lil Jon - Turn Down For What

So there.

The 18 things that I saw or heard this year that made their mark on my brain, all in one list. The lines between mainstream and underground get ever more blurry with the sheer quantity of incredible work that has been done over the past year by artists ranging from EDM mainstays like Hardwell, Tiesto and Kaskade, all the way towards newcomers and rising talents such as Gesaffelstein, Hayden James, Wave Racer and their contemporaries. 2013 has been a great year for electronic music, and we can only hope that 2014 brings the same quality of music to our (and your) ears. Happy New Year! - Aseem
