Artist Spotlight: Metrist

January 25, 2014 -

Oli Fletcher

Quick spotlight on one of the most unique artists you'll hear for a while. Metrist, based in Cambridge, England is a very much underground Tech producer who gives the genre his own distinctive edge. His tracks are based highly upon heavy, dampened kicks setting up hugely distorted and reverberated basslines. His style is very similar to the Leeds-based teen prodigy, Happa, exploiting the particularly dark and obscure vibe that can be derived from high levels of distortion.

It's unusual to find this kind of music coming from the UK, but hopefully with inspiration such as Metrist and Happa, we'll be able to find more and more of it cropping up in all parts of Britain. For now, enjoy the limited amount of tunes like these that make it to your ears. Below is one of them.
