An Alternate Ending To WMC 2013

Over the past 15 years Ultra has developed into one of the biggest music festivals in the world with 7 stages active all day. But no matter what festival you go to there will always be that 'main stage' overcrowded with everyone who knows nothing about what's going on, and more entertainingly everyone who wants to pretend they do know what's going on.

So today when you enter the gates you can hit the Main Stage for Swedish House / Alesso / Dirty South / Bingo Players / Thomas Gold, you can hit the Mega Structure for Paul Van Dyk / Armin / Above & Beyond / ATB, you can even hit the third biggest stage (the Live Stage) for Pretty Lights / Snoop Dogg / Major Lazer. All safe plays to a majority of Ultra Music Festival attendees.

ultra entrance daily beatIf I was in Miami today I know that I would be missing all of those acts. Not hating on Armin Van Buuren, because I think he's one of if not the best trance DJ in the game (and is a great late night move @ Story where Luciano probably held one of the bigger parties of the week last night). Not hating on Swedish House, because they've grabbed the world by the sensitive-pouch and taken over throughout the past few years. Hell I'm not even hating on Pretty Lights, because I used to rock out to Finally Moving (I prefer the original, but who am I to say the remix is not a jam).

Instead of hate, I would use the opposite yet equally passionate burn of love to describe the reason that I would be spending most of my last day of UMF 2013 at the Bayfront Stage. But here's how the whole day would play out in an ideal world:

1:00 - I'd stroll in to the gates a few minutes before 1 (assuming I am up and ready to start the day, which by the way is a horrible assumption) and make my way over to the Live Stage to catch The 2 Bears. The duo from DFA knows how to get a party going and get people into party mode (similar to what Orchard Lounge did for me at Camp Bisco 10 and Tiger & Woods at this past October's City Bisco.

2:20 - These next 40 minutes I dedicate to wandering the grounds, soaking in everything Miami has to offer on the last day of WMC 2013. It's still early so there's a good chance I'm still spinning from last night. Don't stand so close to me.

3:00 - Danny Daze gets wild at the Bayfront Stage. One of a few Hot Creations killer producers starts off a great run of music at this stage, sure to keep you there for a while. Daze's remix work consists of him taking already great tracks and making them even better. Everything he touches turns to gold, and I'm sure the booth at the Bayfront Stage will suffer a similar fate.

4:00 - I don't know too much of what to expect from Justin Martin during this hour. I know he gets deep and I know he's very eclectic, blending deep house with jungle vibes and drum and bass. I figure the point of a music festival is to discover new music, maybe Justin Martin would be my favorite set of the weekend who knows. But I know that when you're spinning between Danny Daze and Miguel Campbell, you've got my attention.

5:00 - ROCK MY BEATS! One of the absolute hottest producers of the past year from Hot Creations Miguel Campbell takes the booth at 5 and if nudism was acceptable on the UMF grounds, it could start at that time. The mind behind many of my recent anthems including "Rockin Beats" "Not That Kind Of Girl" and "Something Special" - all off his debut album Back In Flight School.

6:00 - Another set that would be somewhat mysterious to me, Subb-an takes the stage after Miguel Campbell and is going to have to keep the decks hot because when 7:00 rolls around another Hot Creations star takes over.

7:00 - When Lee Foss came to U Street music hall in February, I didn't know what to expect. I knew to expect some greatness because of jams like "Electricity" and "Benediction" recently released by his label. But I didn't know that he would bring it hard for over 3 hours and get me to stay til the wee hours of the morning.

ultra crowd daily beatI wish I could do it all over again, and if at Ultra Music Festival it would definitely be a smart decision to make moves over to this stage around this time. Especially when there's a back to back like Lee Foss and...

8:00 - Seth Troxler. #1 on Resident Advisor's top 100 DJs of 2012 for good reason, Troxler has seen mass amounts of international acclaim playing shows and festivals all over the world. If killin the game is a crime than someone needs to cuff Seth Troxler before he does any more damage.

After that set I'd probably call it a festy, head back to the hotel, and start rallying for Last Resort at Ice Palace West. Tiger & Woods. Maceo Plex. Soul Clap.

Sofa king down with that day.

Take my advice and enjoy some of the best acts in deep house or call me out for skipping the epic-ness that is a Swedish House Mafia Ultra closing set. I don't really care. Just have fun and enjoy the music, wherever the night may take you.
