Castor Troy should be in your playlists, and I’m not talking about Nic Cage’s character in Face/Off. Aaron Perez, aka Castor Troy, graduated from Icon Collective in 2013 and went on to win the EDC Discovery Project that same year. He has since released a number of awesome EPs, and his recent edit of Pegboard Nerd’s The End Is Near was featured on their official remix album. Troy holds a position in The 13th Grade music collective, and this week he released his latest production – a remix of fellow 13th Grader NGHTMRE. The original – a NGHTMRE and Boombox Cartel collaboration – was released on Mad Decent back in November of last year, and has since reached nearly 2 million plays on SoundCloud. Castor Troy’s new rendition of the track does extremely well to creatively expand upon the excellence of the original.
The remix delivers an energy level similar to that of the first, but dives into the action with a notably higher sense of urgency. The original gives listeners three distinctly different drops throughout the course of the song. Castor’s remix effectively parallels that structural aspect, with each drop splitting your decision on which one slaps the hardest.
