A lot has happened for Warpaint Records since our last coverage on one of their releases. The label has been supplying listeners with a stream of artist singles on a near bi-weekly basis, and last week’s release has been sitting pretty on the Beatport Dubstep Top 100 since it dropped. Twenty Sixteen has already gotten some major heat from Warpaint, and there is no stopping them now.
This week saw the latest release from the label’s newest addition, a producer that goes by the name of 12th Hour. This new tune - Mech Terror - does well to deliver on what you can come to expect from Warpaint, which is massively heavy bass music. Mech Terror even manages to bring in some four-on-the-four play to give a revived sense of urgency and intensity about two-thirds of the way through the song. And the syncopated groove that kicks in at around two minutes and forty-five seconds can induce some serious shoulder bounce. The song features a vocal sample that poses the question, “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?” Evidently, the answer is wickedly filthy dubstep.
