2015 was an essential year for techno’s leading lady, Nicole Moudaber. She has much to check off her bucket list, not the least of it including: 1) throw a yacht party for Mood on the Hudson – check; 2) close out the Drumcode tent at Mysteryland USA – check; and 3) tear up a Brooklyn warehouse alongside Victor Calderone with all-night aggression – check. Really, it’s a wonder if the DJ-and-producer has enough time to sleep. Is it even possible to rest when your success is on a roll? Nicole recently ranked No. 100 in the Resident Advisor Top 100 DJ poll, but don’t be surprised if she places first the next time around.
During the three months following Nicole’s Breed EP release party in September, I’d played the record so often that I know every synth and switch-up like it’s my dayjob. Now, there’s still no reason to keep the excitement from flowing. Our girl is coming back to Brooklyn on December 28, and this time she’s gifting us with a special open-to-close set at Output.
Yesterday marked the official release of Nicole’s heavily twisted and pounding remix for Pan-Pot, “Attention”, as part of Pan-Pot’s The Other Remixes LP. More new material awaits: her remix for Carlo Lio, “Welcome to the Flipside,” releases through Suara Records on the same day as her Output show. But if you can’t hold your breath for that long, fixate on her “In the MOOD” podcast series – there are eighty-five of them and counting. Keep that in mind as you hop into your cab – aux cord ready – en route to Williamsburg for this pre-New Year’s Eve banger.
Have to miss out on the action? Nicole Moudaber is set to perform at Miami’s Heart Nightclub on New Year’s Eve, right before heading to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, for the much-anticipated BPM Festival.
