The Yost Gets TWRKd On

As if the past 5 weeks at The Yost haven't been enough, things got even crazier this past Thursday with White Rabbit Group's Havoc Thursdays. They came, they saw, they twerked. TWRK brought the house down in epic fashion and left us all thirsty for more. TWRK, Jackal, Joel Fletcher, FIGURE and Dirtyphonics have all graced the main stage this past month and it is apparent that The White Rabbit Group shows no signs of slowing down this year.

Opening the night was a special takeover set from Frosty Music,  a local house label that's been making deep waves in the EDM community. Representing the crew was Rachel as she went B2B with their founder Leonitis on some roaring night bass. Although the performance was centered around the deeper styles of house the majority of tracks being played contained elements of hip hop which fit perfectly with the trap headliner of the night. By far the best moment was when Leonitis threw down his remix of Eminem's Just Lose It, a truly nostalgic and epic club jam. This was a great introduction to Frosty Music and we look forward to catching some more of their takeovers this year!

Dyphekta was next on the bill turning up the heat a bit with a more epic selection for the club. With the crowd already warmed up Dyphekta began dropping some killer trap tunes that felt very PLUR vibes. With epic breakdowns, progressive builds, and festival worthy drops, we were left wondering where the heck this guy came from! After enjoying some time backstage we couldn't help but checkout the dance floor. Upon stepping down we noticed the playful mosh pits and packed crowd that filled the lower floor of the venue. Stepping in made us truly aware of the energy Dyphekta was trying to portray to this audience of young music lovers. With seamless mixing and a unique choice of tracks, the crowd went from vibing to raging by the end of his set. Basically he handled his job as direct support soon passing on the stage to two of our favorite artists of the booty persuasion.

Step back a few years to 2013. Trap has already blown up but very few pioneers of the scene began exploring the territory defined by its tempo of 100 beats per minute. Although the majority of hip hop club jams were set to this tempo, trap laid predominantly at 140 BPM. It was at this time that Benzi and eSenTRIK joined forces as the anonymous duo TWRK. Their name referred to the twerk genre of 100BPM and their styles infused to create just that. The only difference was they were some of the first and some of the best to make it happen. This Summer they made their first SoCal appearance at Hard Summer and since then they've been taking stages by storm with terrorizing performances that have left a lasting impact on the genre.

Finally they hit the stage delivering a flurry of edits and mashups within their realms of 100. The crowd bounced to tracks that had festival vibes yet were reminiscent of high school house parties. For the few hours that they had the floor they soared through tons of tracks including the epic BaDINGA! as well as their rework of Trippy's Theme. They layered their favorites and originals with throwbacks including tracks from The Backstreet Boys, Beastie Boys, Montell Jordan, and of course Ludacris. The set stayed true to their sound but gave us a taste of their notorious mixes that they grew so popular on. Bootys clapped, the floor shook, and sweat dripped out giving us yet again a mind blowing experience at The Yost, as is usual on Thursday nights by now.

This Thursday is going to be another epic night at The Yost as Valentino Khan steps up to the decks and gets us ready for Coachella. The mustached menace dropped quite the set at LED Anniversary in San Diego and this Thursday leading us to wonder what he has in store for this intimate setting. Take a peek at the rest of White Rabbit's upcoming performances below and let us know which ones you're excited to catch!
