SPOTLIGHT: Shadow Child

May 7, 2013 -

Finn Lurcott

Ever since I watched Skream drop Shadow Child's 23 in his W Hotel Boiler Room Set, I have become obsessed with almost every production of Shadow Child. Beginning life as the experimental side project of Dave Spoon, Shadow Child (aka Simon Neale) has smashed onto the scene in the last 12 months with releases on Dirtybird, Pets and Moda Black. His fresh approach to 4/4 music tastefully treads the line between house and ‘bass’ music, earning him accolades from forerunners across both scenes in the process, including from the likes of Disclosure who invited him on tour with them recently. UK based Shadow Child made his debut via the mighty Dirtybird early in 2012, mostly thanks to the EP's lead track "String Thing" dominating Eats Everything' and Claude Vonstroke's DJ sets, the World over. This new alias for one of House music's already known names has turned down an exciting path with underground bass-led grooves plus all the quirks and depth you'd expect in the cooler rooms around the globe. Remixes and DJ dates are filling the diary as a new musical dawn begins. The Shadow Child is no more a 'side-Project', it's here to stay.

For those of you who have never heard any of Shadow Child's productions I have posted some of my favourites below for you. Shadow Child is yet to venture over the pond to catch that crazy American fever, but I am sure that it is only a matter of time before this occurs. Currently Shadow Child has mainly stayed pretty close to home with most shows of his occurring in the boundaries of the UK, but we are starting to see a number of shows venturing into Europe such as those at Ibiza, Zurich, Amsterdam, and Croatia. We have also seen some BIG names playing alongside Shadow Child in the last few months, such as the likes of Groove Armada, Justin Martin, Hannah Wants, SBTRKT, and Bondax! If any of you are interested in going to check out Shadow Child live, then here are some dates for y'all:
