Beats & Pieces - Vol. XXII Electric Daisy Carnival 2016 Edition

June 17, 2016 -

Louis Garcia

Let's face it - EDC is all over your timeline this week. Insomniac's annual massive music festival Electric Daisy Carnival is hitting its 20th anniversary and the party won't be going up without an immense amount of excitement from online media and social outlets.

This week you're doing one of the following things..

A.) You're going and you're ALL about the hype.

B.) Not going and feeling the FOMO.

C.) Considering buying a ticket just for Sunday.

D.) Too high on ketamine to functionally interact with society.

If any of these are the case then we've come to make matters worse (or better) by throwing down some of our top picks for this weekend so you and you pals can be ready for the neon glow that will soon take hold at the Las Vegas Speedway.

1. A-TRAK - PARALLEL LINES FEAT. PHANTOGRAM (CHRIS LORENZO REMIX)

To kick this list off we have the latest hot single from Fool's Gold master A-Trak with his Phantogram collaboration, remixed by Chris Lorenzo. A-Trak is an Electric Daisy Carnival veteran, he holds a prestigious status at the event as a must-see for his ridiculous turntable skills. On top of that Chris Lorenzo is by far our favorite act for modern day booty house beats. His dirty style masked with a deep house sheen makes him the perfect act for a house-head seeking the turnup.

2. KRNE X STOOKI SOUND - MEDICINE

Both KRNE and Stööki Sound are set to light off this weekend with their respective styles of forward-thinking trap music. KRNE has been on the quick come up with futuristic bass music and we are a bit surprised to see him on the Speedway so soon. Nonetheless we're confident he'll be killing it, unlike Stooki who we can pretty guarantee will host the most lit trap set of the weekend. If you're a fan of trap and you're getting sick of Carnage than we'd highly reccomend either of these sets.

3. LOCO DICE - KEEP IT LOW (FEAT. CHRIS LIEBING)

I have never left a Loco Dice set thinking that I didn't just step out of the best set I had seen all weekend. Both at Coachella and CRSSD Fest this German mastermind radically altered the way I felt about tech house music creating some of the most disturbingly unpredictable moments that I have seen in EDM period. And we gotta admit if you're looking for the deepest techno at EDC then your weekend wouldn't be complete without a visit to Chris Liebing's hypnotic performance at Neon Garden.

4. 12TH PLANET, LUMBERJVCK - NAME BRAN

On Friday the BassPod will be torn to pieces with a monstrous set from 12th Planet, Protohype, and Lumberjvck. Take a legend like 12th Planet and add a few of the most heaviest bass acts that are coming up in the scene and you have something that will surely be bone shaking, not to mention its at the 11PM slot just as everyone gets well settled into the festival landscape. In addition, it'll without a doubt be Lumberjvck's biggest performance to date and we couldn't be more proud of him for it.

5. BOT & ASTRONOMAR - MAGIC JARGON

Main Course label founders and all-star acts Bot and Astronomar are going to be throwing down a B2B set this weekend and it's LITerally anything we could ever want. Former Crookers member Bot is an absolute beast when it comes to funky booty house music whereas Astronomar is an insane lunatic for the techno inspired bass house bangers. Both offer up their own in production releases on Main Course and DJ sets at the eclectic Night Bass parties in Hollywood. This is by far one of EDC's biggest gems and we would highly reccomend catching it to get the full force Main Course serving.

6. EPTIC - ECTOPLASM FT. MUST DIE

Closing the BassPod on Saturday night (Sunday morning) is none other than our boys Eptic and Must Die who will be conducting a shattering B2B performance for those of you who still haven't came down- I mean its 5AM you should probably be finding your friends by now.

7. BONUS: JOYRYDE - THE BOX

As a bonus we wanted to throw in the fact that Joyryde is throwing down this weekend and if you know anything about this jack-twisting bass house overlord, then you'll get how big of a deal this is. Joyryde has been creating a monstrous name for himself online despite being a rare performance to catch at clubs and festivals this year. We're assured that all of this will change for the rest of 2016 and we encourage everyone to checkout the start of it all this weekend.
