Beats & Pieces Vol. IV

June 12, 2015 -

Fadi AbuZaineh

Let's kick off summer vacation with our 4th installment of the Beats and Pieces series, with this week's selection of music brought to you by myself! Each weekly volume consists of the 5 top tracks that the chosen Daily Beat member has been listening to. I must say that so far, we have some pretty good taste.

Now with EDC coming up in less than a week, I've been preparing my ears by checking out what the performing artists I'm dying to see are putting out, while still catering to my own musical palette. Nonetheless, it's only made me more excited for it, so I hope you all feel the same!  These are in no particular order by the way, they have all received equal listening treatment and deserve just as much from everyone else. Here we go...

1. Dusky - Yoohoo

Dusky has been a name that's been ringing in my head ever since I stumbled upon their set at last year's HARD Summer. I was still kind of new to the deeper side of house music, so I had to give their set my full attention so I can take it all in for what it is. Surely enough, they blew me away with the sheer groovy piano riffs and amazingly simple but huge beats. I definitely recommend Dusky to any fan of house and techno music, you will not be disappointed!

2. SNBRN  feat. Kerli - Raindrops (Hotel Garuda Remix)

Hotel Garuda's rendition of Raindrops is just plain awesome. The deep house vibes along with the sexy saxophone flourishes come together so nicely. I was happy to see this on my SoundCloud feed, and I hope it will make it to your selective list of likes. The duo is also making their EDC debut this year, so be sure to stop by their set!

3. Kidnap Kid - Fall

This track was brought to my attention by a friend who tagged me in a Facebook post saying that I might enjoy this. Little did that person know that I was going to be bumping this at least once a day since. With over 2 million SoundCloud followers and playing the main stages at some huge festivals, Kidnap Kid is definitely on the rise. Another must see at EDC for sure!

4. Bones - Night Bass X THUMP Mix

I know this isn't a single track, but bear with me for a second. As a person that likes to mix as a hobby, I'm always trying to find dope mixes to play during my daily commute to find inspiration, and so I don't have to keep skipping through my music. So I was pleased to see that Bones of AC Slater's new label Night Bass collaborated with THUMP to put out this awesome mix that ranges from G-House to Bass House. If you've got an hour to spare, hit the play button and let the music take you on a journey. Night Bass will also be taking over Stage 7 on Day 3 of the festival, you do not want to miss this!

5. Van Halen - Jump (Audien Remix)

That's right, I'm bringing you all out of the deep end to the grand finale, which is this MASSIVE remix of one of my favorite songs of all time. What better person to give Van Halen's nostalgic hit a progressive house remix other than Audien? I first heard this monster track during his set at last year's Nocturnal Wonderland, and I was blown away. Just when I thought I've heard everything remixed into EDM, this made me realize I was dead wrong. I mean, just listen to the synths in the original and compare it to any of Audien's tracks. It's a perfect fit. The one issue with this track is that it has yet to be officially released, but that's okay, it will be in my collection very soon. Keep your ears open for this tune if you're seeing Audien at EDC!
